Pictograms for a broad public

A nice project for the Van Gogh Museum in cooperation with KoeweidenPostma. The pictograms are part of the signage in the building and are also included in the floor map of the public flyer. Important in this assignment was the development of a style and form language which associates well with the Gerrit Rietveld architecture of the main building and the Kurokama wing. Also important was to create a range of pictograms which are well recognisable with an international public.

The evolution of a bag

Special attention went into one specific subject: the ‘bag’. For a museum it is always difficult to draw the line in what kind of bag to allow to take inside and which not. Where does it stop to be a handbag type and where starts the big carrier bag or backpack. The choice was made for the one on the very right side: a good mix and not to stereotype like, so that there is space for the museum guard’s own interpretation and judgement.
